PFAS: An Emerging Contaminant

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a group of manufactured chemicals widely used in industrial and consumer products, such as food packaging and insulation. Currently, there are over 3,000 PFAS used in the global consumer market. This group of contaminants is widespread and degrades slowly, pervading soil, groundwater, and surface water. As the Environmental Protection Agency continues to develop its approach to PFAS, developers and consumers will rely on environmental consultants for guidance on this emerging group of contaminants.
